Narrative is..
- The way stories are told.
- How meaning is constructed, to achieve the understanding of the audience.
- An organisation of time and space, into a very compressed formation.
- A voice for a story, but it varies on whose story and whose perspective.
- Event centrally driven, being presented or referred.
- Constructed (in film) through elements like camerawork, lighting, sound, mise-en-scene and editing.
Importance to Narrative..
- As children, we read fairytales and myths/legends.
- As we grow up, we read novels, biographies etc.
- Religion is often presented as narratives, like within the bible for example.
- Performance is always a form of narrative, as such as plays, films, theatre, dance. Aswell as still imagery like photographs and paintings.
- News events are told as stories.
- Dreams are retold as stories.
